Habitat: Grows in open areas in the mountains where there is sufficient moisture.

Elderberry has been used medicinally in other countries to treat the flu, colds, fevers and other ailments. It is a well known diuretic and purgative.

Most parts of this plant are mildly poisonous. The flowers are the preferred parts used in treatment. The berries are said to be edible after they are cooked as cooking destroys the toxins. | |
